Tributes to Barry Burns

"My dear brother Barry Burns (as your military friend would say “that’s a…. bad name”). Words cannot express how much I love you and will miss you. I will miss knowing that I could call you and you would always be on the other end to answer or call back. I’ll miss the calls when we communicated about our childhood. You would start with “Do you remember? …” and I would know we were going to be on the phone for a while reminiscing and laughing and enjoying one another. Those were good times! With you being 2 years younger than me, mama gave you to me to love and to protect and I took it seriously! I literally thought it was my duty to do so. When you grew up and towered over me, I felt the assignment was still the same and had not changed. Loving you will not stop! R.I.H. until we meet again."

"Me and my big brother always shared a special kinship. From east to west, California or New York, nothing could separate us. Sleep well my big brother. I love you."

"Daddy's Little Girl" (written in 1995)
To My Daddy (Barry Karl Burns)
From Your Little Girl (Tiffany Denise Burns)

When I was a little girl,
You would come in the door with a bright smile.
I thought to myself how big my Daddy is (Like today)
Then with one sweep, I was lifted up so high,
I thought I could touch the stars... If I  tried.
You guided and protected me through good and bad.
You even came 3000 miles to hold my hand
When I thought it was the end...
You listened to me cry,
Even wiped away the tears when Grandpa died.
Even though the Lord has tested us,
We somehow managed to see tomorrow.
Dad, what I would like for you to know
Is that my love for you
Has no end and is very true,
And one more thing
I Love You! I Love You! I Love You!

"I already knew that morning that God was going to call your name. In life I loved you dearly. In death I do the same. It broke my heart to lose you, you did not go alone, for parts of me went with you the day God called you home. You left me peaceful memories your love is still my guide and though I can not see you, you are always at my side. my family chain is broken and nothing seems the same but as God calls us one by one the chain will link again. Love always."

"God looked around his garden and found and empty space. Then he looked down upon this earth and saw your tired face. He put his arms around you and lifed you to rest. God’s garden must be beautiful he only takes the best."

"Cousin Barry, Even though you could answer to several roles in life, (brother, son, father, cousin, protector, veteran, etc.), my favorite was that you loved to bring joy and laughter...you were the "Fun Master." You will be dearly missed and per one of our favorite songs "As" by Stevie Wonder:

As around the sun the earth knows she's revolving,
And the rosebuds know to bloom in early May,
Just as hate knows love's the cure
You can rest assured,
That we'll be loving you always
As now can't reveal the mysteries of tomorrow
But in passing will grow older every day
Just as all is born is anew
Do know what I say is true
That we'll be loving you always

Rest in Love Cuz,"

Barbara Wilson, cousin
"When things like this happen, some of us find ourselves going down memory lane of times spent together... One of my 1st memories was Uncle Barry and I on the city bus he was driving after he spent time in Vietnam. I was very young. Then I was thinking of the time he took over our house on Piper Street. While my mother was sick, my dog Princess and I stayed with him. I was probably around 10 or 11 and he was around 27 or 28 years old.

I remember eating a lot of pizza for dinners and scrambled eggs for breakfast and listening to Aretha Franklin "Amazing Grace" on Sundays. I remember Uncle Barry sicking Princess on another dog being walked by our house, and they fought. It was really a great moment! I thought of him also taking me to my 1st day of school at Remus Robinson and giving me the "Put my books 1st, not the girls" speech.

Then I thought about how he would give Clifford and I, $20 or $25 each for washing his Park Avenue and Lincoln Towncar. I was probably about 12. There are many other thoughts... He will be greatly missed. Love you much my dear Uncle."

"I am truly thankful for our conversations and family events that we were able to share together
in Detroit. I know that time and distance are only temporary, and that we will see each other
again. You will always be loved and missed, Uncle Berry!
Rest in Power.

John 14 Versus 1- 3
1 “Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God ; believe also in me.
2 My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you?
3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.
- Keila Robinson!"
